Diamond Die & Mold hand crimping tools deliver reliable, repeatable terminations for wire harness, cable assembly, and electrical termination work where a press or automated line isn’t required. Every tool in our 088 Series is engineered for professional use in prototyping, low-volume production, field service, and repair environments.
Professional-Grade Construction
Every 088 Series tool is built for professional use with the same precision Diamond Die & Mold applies to our production applicators:
- Hardened A2 tool steel crimp components for wear resistance and long service life
- Cast handles for durability and ergonomic grip
- Estimated cycle life of 50,000+ cycles with proper handling and cleaning
- Crimp geometry matched to production applicators for prototype-to-production consistency
- Available with or without ratchet mechanism, commonly known as positive stop functionality
The 088 Series Hand Tools
Five professional-grade hand crimping tool styles, each engineered for a specific terminal type and application. Each style is available with a ratchet mechanism (indicated by the “R” suffix), which is how most customers order.
The “B, D, E, W” designations refer to the shape and style of the crimp. The ratchet assembly is offered as a $25 upgrade and is typically handled through the quotation process.

088DR Crimp Pliers (with Ratchet)
Multi-sized closed grip terminal pliers with a single indent design. The “D” refers to the crimp shape, which is round on one side with an indention on the other that is also round, creating a cross section that resembles the letter D.
Specifications:
- Wire capacity: 28 AWG to 14 AWG depending on terminal geometry
- Multi-size crimping capability for closed grip terminals
- Single indent design
- Available with or without ratchet feature
Best for: Closed grip terminal applications where a secure, D-shaped enclosed connection is required for protection against moisture, corrosion, or vibration.

Best for: Closed grip terminal applications where a secure, D-shaped enclosed connection is required for protection against moisture, corrosion, or vibration.
088ER Crimp Pliers (with Ratchet)
Multi-sized closed grip terminal pliers with a pancake-shaped crimp profile. The “E” style creates a crimp that is flat on the top and bottom with rounded sides.
Specifications:
- Wire capacity: 28 AWG to 14 AWG depending on terminal geometry
- Multi-size crimping capability for closed grip terminals
- Flat top and bottom, rounded sides
- Available with or without ratchet feature
Best for: Closed grip terminal applications where a flat-profile crimp is required for clearance, seating, or connector fit.
088WR Crimp Pliers (with Ratchet)
All-purpose standard pliers with two crimp stations, engineered for a wider range of general-purpose crimping.
Specifications:
- Wire capacity: 14 AWG to 10 AWG depending on terminal geometry
- Two-station design
- Can be engineered for customer-specific crimp width and height
- Available with or without ratchet feature

Best for: General-purpose crimping across mixed applications where two crimp stations cover the required range. Custom crimp width and height configurations available.
Ratchet Mechanism (Positive Stop) for Consistent Crimp Pressure
Every 088 Series tool is available with an optional ratchet mechanism, commonly known as a positive stop. The ratchet ensures the crimp is fully completed before the tool releases, preventing incomplete or weak connections that could compromise your termination quality.
For professionals working on high-precision or high-volume tasks, the ratchet delivers:
- Uniform crimping pressure on every cycle
- Reduced risk of operator error
- Consistent results across shifts and technicians
- Faster training for new operators
The ratchet assembly is offered as a $25 upgrade and is included in most orders. Pricing is confirmed through the quotation process.
Custom-Engineered Hand Tools Built to Your Terminals and Wire Specs
Standard hand tools don’t always fit your terminals. Diamond Die & Mold can engineer custom hand tools built to your specific:
- Terminal series and supplier
- Wire gauge and insulation type
- Crimp width and height requirements
- Pull-force and quality standards
If our 088 Series doesn’t have the exact configuration you need, our engineering team can design a custom hand tool to your specifications. Reverse engineering is available for legacy or discontinued tools where prints no longer exist.
Send us your terminal and wire specs, or send us the worn tool you need replaced. We’ll measure, model, and build the solution.
Industry Applications
Our 088 Series hand tools support wire termination work across:
Automotive and EV Manufacturing
Precision crimps for battery systems, wiring harnesses, and charging infrastructure. Handles EV assembly, prototyping, and field service applications.
Aerospace
Consistent crimps for avionics wiring, structural connections, and mission-critical applications where reliability standards are non-negotiable.
Industrial Manufacturing
Durable terminations for power distribution systems, control panels, heavy machinery, and intricate electrical assemblies.
Wire Harness and Cable Assembly

When to Choose Hand Tools Over a Press
Hand tools aren’t a downgrade from press-based crimping. They’re the right choice when:
- You’re building prototypes and don’t want to commit a press
- Production volume is low or specialty
- You need portable capability for field service or repair
- You need backup crimping when your press is offline
- You’re validating a new terminal or wire configuration before scaling to production
For higher-volume production, our full line of applicators and presses provides fully automated crimping. Our hand tools give you the same crimp geometry in a portable format.
